Our forum is run by a Management Committee for the over 55s plus within the Borough of Swindon, irrespective of their current working status. We maintain our independence from external influences to give you a louder voice and equal say on matters which impact on your life.

We aim to keep you informed of our work and keep you updated on all local and national issues that might impact on your life, such as transport, housing and isolation.

The forum was established in 2011 under the name of Swindon Older Peoples Forum (SOPF). In 2011 David Brown, representing the retired community service volunteers, and Carol Brownlee, representing Swindon Walcot and Parks Community Group, were invited to the South West Seniors Forum conference in Taunton. decided that nothing like this was going on in Swindon, so they came back to Swindon and decided they would try to set up something along similar lines.

See also: Feature in the Swindon Advertiser and the SSF promotional video which we made with Swindon Viewpoint Community Media to raise awareness of the extent and effect of loneliness.

The SSF currently focus on isolation. However, we also address other issues, such as travel, housing and universal benefits.

If you would wish to be updated on any of the above issues via our website please let us know to ensure that this website remains relevant to you.

The Management Committee would encourage your active participation in our future open meetings and events and we very much look forward to meeting you.
